I am considering a space heater to be used occasionally in my 179 SE. I understand that fire hazard is most common at the AC socket. Does anyone know the gauge wire used on the sockets that are 15 amp fused? The heater I am considering has 2 power settings, 700 W and 1500 W. If the 1500 W heater setting draws 13.6 amps, will the 15 amp fuse be adequate or should I limit the heater to 700 watts?

Hey Mark hope all; is well. 14 gauge wire is good for 15 amps.12 Gauge is good for 20 amps.10 gauge is good for 30 amps. 1500 watts is max I would use but see if you can fine one with 1000 watts. You might have issues if something else is on the circuit you are using for the heater.I have one for our Jayco that is 500watt 750watts or 1000 watts got it from Lowes no problems. GBA!!SVJ

Joe, thanks for the info. I bought and returned a heater that stayed quiet and cool to the touch at 750W. It has a 1500W option that I don't think I would ever need in a 20ft trailer. Guess I will need to put the battery back in the smoke detector if I use the heater? Cooking in a box does set those SQUEALERS off frequently! Will look for a 1000W heater also. The hardware stores are closing out such items and getting ready for POOLS.
We are well!

forgot to mention if you use the adapter from 30 amp to 15/20 amp 120v be careful . As voltage goes down amperage goes up. So 2  heater at 120volts ac draws less amperage than same heater with 110volts ac. better to be safe than sorry. Might be in SR area in March for my 74th BD will let you know . Grandkids want me to visit.GBA!!SVJ

Check the wattage on Mrs.'s hair dryer,  yikes.  That said, we use an electric space heater also, low setting is 750.

Thanks. Joe, my BD is also in March. We are setting up a trip to San Diego starting the 1st and will be gone 7-10 days, I assume. Kinda long drive so we may do some additional exploring in the southland while it is relatively cool
