So, need to attend a symposium in the Keys in August.
Just made my reservations at a nearby campground, it's expensive down there.
Reminds me of another trip however, to a conference in St. Augustine.
We stayed at Faver Dykes State Park, very nice and only $28/night.

When I filled out my expense report, the corporate office sent it back and said I made a mistake on lodging.
I called them up and explained that I (we, Mrs. Tom, the dog, the cat and I) had camped nearby
so $28/night was correct.

The nice lady on the other end of the phone said,

"I've never heard of that before."

It's all fun.

I get it. They're complaining because you didn't stay in a $200/night hotel. Idiocracy. BTDT.

Say, Tom, just wondering ... did you expense your mileage, too?
I had a biz trip a few months ago leaving Philly to Birmingham AL, followed by Columbia SC. The ingenious "hub & spoke" air system had me going from AL - PHL - SC ... so I grabbed a rental car and drove a direct Al-SC leg via I-20. Was fun and saved the Co. a few $100's vs. airfare.
... so figuring your mileage + S.P. fees would still be a bargain, all in.

Yes, mileage and meal per diem without receipts.
Lodging and symposium fees with receipts.
By my math, I saved the company a couple hundred,
and got a nice little camping trip to boot.

Maybe it would save me money too,
if I could keep Mrs. Tom from shopping while I'm working...

My work will pay mileage/expenses up to the cost of airline/Uber/parking/hotel etc... but typically I’m putting in 12-16 hr days when I travel for work (about 20 wks/yr). This means the commute from an RV park is a serious issue as I am usually city center in or near a convention center. This renders the trailer and the trip moot, in favor of a flight and a nearby hotel.
