Hey guys, I've posted a couple pix of two things we needed to do to 'upgrade' our Retro to foil insects, both very inexpensive and both very effective.  The bumper caps we got at Camping World and the SS insect screens we found on Ebay.  One day, we noticed bees coming out of the factory installed bumper caps as we were preparing for a trip.  This started the whole oddessy with the insect screens, since we also have mud-daubers in our locale.  My friend had mud-daubers completely plug his furnace vents and nearly started a fire in his Aljo trailer.  rsz_dsc_0009.jpg

It's hard to see, but there are a series of small holes in these flexible caps (<$6) from Camping World, to allow venting.  No more bees in our bumper. rsz_dsc_0010.jpg

The holes might be easier to see in this photo.  The caps are installed by squeezing the center rib and they do stay put!  We've hauled our Retro over a 1000 miles since installing them.  Dittos for the screens. rsz_1dsc_0011.jpg

You can also pop out the perforated screen on the water heater and put it back with some aluminum window screen covering it - that will keep the small critters out of the water heater. I also used Al window screen and hot melt glue on the inside of the lower fridge vent, but they do make inserts. The top vent(s), too, take the top cap off and fit some screen there (there's just 1/4" hardware cloth as-is, which bees and wasps can get through).

Thanks for the tip.  I think the very same insects we are most concerned about are also to be countered at the water heater vent and, possibly, the fridge vent.  I've been scratching my head on these two areas and probably need to address them soon.  We live in the country and the concern is when we park our unit for a few weeks during the active summer months.

Mic Tod:
Thanks for the tip on the bumper plugs. It's only a matter of time before the factory ones fall out and my sewer hose will be dangling behind me as I drive down the road!
