Hello All,

My name is Keith and my wife Brandy and I are in the market for a travel trailer ( light/ultra type). We have been shopping an researching. We want something not bigger than 20 or so feet and around the 3000lb (give or take ) range. We have a Toy 4R 4WD-V8 ( 7000 lb TC max).

After much shopping an research we are really smitten with the Riverside Retro 179SE. Floor plan works for us and our 2 dogs and the length and weight seem right. Love the detail and craftsmanship and we are really pleased to hear it is a alumnimum cage ( someone please confirm this). The main issue we see ( based on a visual and what has been said in reviews) is the clearance.

We the love the retro look and sort of “cruiser” aesthetic it has - low and slow. Very sweet!

However, does not seem well suited to rougher terrain or obstacles ( intended or not).

We understand there is a lift kit. THe dealer wants to charge for that ( is that typical?)

How high a lift kit is needed?

How does this affect the Torflex system on the suspension?

How high can it be lifted without out compromising the function and integrity of the coach and its suspension?

Anyone have experience or insight into remedial measures for this “clearance” issue with the Retro models?

Thanks in advance! Thanks for welcoming us!

We are in California and have a 2016 195 retro we are thinking of selling we want to move up to a motor home. If interested let me know. We like the floor plan of the 195 with two large beds with the U shaped dining area.  image.jpeg  image.jpeg

I have a 26' 199fks, never had a single clearance issue. That said, we don't boondocks or 4wd. I have had some sites with pretty steep entries though...
