Hello,
Newbie on the forum, purchased a 2017 176S a few months ago and have been doing some mods then camping the rest of the time. ðŸ˜‰
I've tried searching the forums for info about replacing the vent with a Fan-tastic Fan, but I can't find much. We removed the original vent cover from the ceiling and found a hole that had red and white wires stuck through (they seemed to be attached to something...maybe the air conditioner unit...just not sure?).  Anyone had this experience?  From where did you pull your power to run the new fan?  We just found it very odd that these wires were in this hole right where we would need them to be.
Thanks.

Hi TenneC,
I have a 2018 176S and installed a Maxx fan. I was thrilled when I realized that those red and white wires pull out to reveal terminals intended for wiring in a fan. BTW the fan has been terrific. The only downside was that it is darker than with the original translucent fan cover. I got over that pretty quickly when I realized how amazing it is to have such a powerful air-in/air-out fan.
Hope that helps.

Alice,
Thank you for the reply.  Yes, I will miss the light coming through...I "think" there is a clear cover that can be purchased for this fan.  I'm not sure, but I will research.
Question...you mentioned "...red and white wires pull out to reveal terminals..."  What we found was a wire that was bent, curved back into the hole, without any exposed wire, and it doesn't seem to pull out.  Did yours look like this?  Here is what ours looks like, and it seems to be connected to something when we try to pull on it.  Tenne vent pic.jpg

Hi TenneC,
Yes, mine looked exactly like that. When I saw the loop, I figured I'd tee into the wire. When I pulled on it to figure out where it came from and where it was going, lo and behold, there were terminals on one end of the loop. My guess is that the terminals on yours are hanging up on something. I wouldn't be afraid to be a little aggressive on your tugging and twisting.

Hi Alice,
Thank you for the quick response and information.  Yes, that may be it.  I feel like we will get it worked out and have a new fan before long...I'm excited!  Glad they had a wire there.  My husband called the company this morning, and they said they wire those fans in for customers sometimes.  Therefore, she felt pretty confident their company pulls a wire up to that point for the easy access in case a customer requests one, etc. It's been pretty interesting learning about our retro as we go along.
Thanks again.
I appreciate this group and the insights!

Just wanna add that we have a fantastic fan and it really is fantastic.  Very power effficient, quiet, and even closes it's vent when it senses rain.  Excellent upgrade.
