Our hot water heater never fires up. Clicks three times, but won't ignite.

The furnace works intermittently, not getting heat as it should.

We thought it was a simple clogged line to both units.

We finally took it to Curtis Trailers.

Here's what they said:

Gas valve water heater $70 part
Circuit board furnace $135 part

$526.35 labor

$731.30 TOTAL

4.1 hours sealant work is also needed - $653 - All 4 corner moldings - clean off and replace - will give us the information on other areas.

They quoted 3.5 hours labor for circuit board and gas valve. That seems excessive.

It seems these should be relatively easy to replace ourselves. Any feedback on pros and cons of DIY? Definitely going to reseal ourselves. But unsure about circuit board and gas valve.

We are total novices with RV stuff and not huge DIYers.

Thanks in advance!

Hope that is it for your troubles. Our furance clicked 3n times but did not heat and it was circuit board. I beleive the all try 3 times and then if no fire reset. GBA!!SVJ

That sounds odd... and excessive.
How old is the trailer?

If worse comes to worse, I would contact a plumber and get a quote.

By the way. A circuit board is unplugging the wire clip and clipping on the new one...

It's a 2013.  They said the hours quoted are based on the spader coding that allows them to charge up to 2 hours for x job, regardless of whether or not they use that entire amount of time.  The said it's RV industry standard.  I think it's a load of BS.  Regardless, we are probably going to have them do it, in case it's not the actual problem, and they warranty their work - if the problem continues, at least I can get them to fix it until it's right.  But this Spader billing is crap, when I know the job will only take a short amount of time.  Our trailer is tiny and not all that complicated to deal with, but maybe that's my inexperience talking.

I asked 2 RV dealers in Reno about the Spader book pricing. They do not use it. I had leaky shower faucet replace took 1 hour parts and labor $115. This is one of the higher shops in our area. Have you thought about calling a mobile RV repair shop. They so to be faster and cheaper than rv repair shops. I read in trailer mag this month of people leaving their unit for 3 weeks to get 3 hours of work done.GBA!!!SVJ
