The Barker 1.75 ton was out of stock on Overstock dot com.  I was going to follow the lead of the other folks on this forum.  So, I continued looking on the web and got more confused.  I did read that the Brute Husky was good because it has ball bearings.  I went to a local RV dealer and that is what he carried.  I pulled it out of the box and it looked like it would work fine.  I pulled the trigger, even though I paid more that on line (that runs against my stingy character),  The guy threw in the eye and connector that was needed (certainly not work the extra money paid).  However, I got it home and installed it yesterday with no problems.  I still feel a little bad that I could not follow my fellow Retro folks in their Barker decision.  It raises and lowers just fine.  I will keep you posted how it does on my next trip.

Hi Jim,
You will forget all about the brand and the price the first time you hit the switch in a dark rainy campground after a long day behind the wheel!

Thanks Peter.   I think you are right.  If I can install an electric jack then anyone can.  It was easy.  So far I have only played with it 3 times in the drive and like it.  Maybe later, after a good bit of use, I can give the forum feedback on the Husky.  FYI, the dealer I bought it from was selling a lot of trailers with Lippert jacks, so I asked if it was the right one.  His reply was, "they are junk and all will come back later".  I was shocked that he would say that since he sold new trailers, most with Lippert jacks.

Jim,
Our Retro has been my first experience with any kind of RV product. When we first started shopping, I was really put off by the junky quality of some of the campers for sale. The Retros were a pleasant surprise in that respect. Not perfect, but quite good by industry standards. I really like Airstreams, but other than the metal skin, I don't see much justification for spending double or triple the price of a Retro.
I found the Service and Parts people at my dealer to be quite frank and honest about what works and what doesn't. Not so much in the Sales and Finance Departments...... Haha!

This is my first other than a used old viking pop up trailer that I had for 2 years.
But I have to say, I felt the same way when I looked at the other trailers in comparison. Just the woodwork compared to wall paper did it for me to take a close look. I think I made a good selection.
