We’re looking to buy the Retro 135 but are getting concerned about clearance on Montana gravel roads with switchbacks and inclines. Is there enough clearance with 14” wheels? Should we go with 15”wheels? What about a lift? How would that affect the leaf spring?
We’ll be towing with a 4WD 4-Runner TRD and an FJ Cruiser. Thanks for the input!

We had a 2013 with 13'' and never had a clearance issue or dragging on our roads in Nevada and Sierra Mts are most likely same as what you would run into I pull our with older lifted Tundra 4x4 with TRD package and 2'' lift I just drive slow on the rougher roads good luck. GBA!!SVJ

If you have the option go with 15" tires and a lift kit. Why worry about clearance. I hit a rock or two before lifting and have stock 15" wheels.

mkevenson - What variety of lift kit did you use?  Changing the axel/spring connection is more lift that I want.

2ty, I had a custom 2" "tube" made at a suspension shop. No change to axcel/spring needed .

We have a 195 so I can speak for sure about a 135.  However, we have pulled our 195 all over Montana and had no problems with our 14 inch tires.

My problem with clearance is when pulling into a gas station or store parking area that is not level with the road. It can produce some serious scrapping of the bumper or hitch mechanism. Perhaps bigger tires would help?

If it makes you feel safer the 15 inch tires would help.  The corker tires that come on the Retro are terrible.  They are bias and you want a radial on them.  I use Maxxis which are great and I think Goodyear has come out with an RV tire that is good.
