OK I give up.   There is a nice carpeted "box" on the floor beneath the dinette table in our 2017 177SE.  This would be at the front of the trailer behind the battery on the outside.

Our small dog has found this to be a nice spot to hang out during dinner, but I am wondering what the original design purpose was.  I do not believe it covers any connections.  If it were not there we would have more foot room (of course our dog would lose his space).

Any ideas ??

I'm not sure. It's empty and accessed from the dinette under seat storage. I thought it would be a good place for a second battery (sealed of course). We have a 3 section tote that holds our coffee pot, toaster, ect. Rides on the floor for travel and sets on top of the "box" while setup. Fits perfect. I hope someone knows...

It's just because the wall is thin, so it keeps stuff from being put on (or people stepping on) the lauan paneling and breaking it. On ours, there's no direct access to the interior space - it's walled in on the sides, although you can remove the top by pulling back the carpeting along the edges and removing some screws. There's nothing inside, so it could be used for something, but not enough room for a useful battery because of how the front wall slope inward there.

What year is your 177 mikes? Ours is a 2015. Never put a tape measure on it but seems like a battery would fit. I just winterized this week and the rains started last night, so may have to wait to really get down and check it out. However,
it works well for what we use it for so I could just let sleeping dogs (or dogs waiting for supper) lie.

Thanks for your reply. mikes.   With all the space utilized in these small trailers I just got to thinking and the thought stuck.   It is what happens when you are out in a beautiful spot and the mind drifts to odd places.  [smile]

Not sure why you think the year would matter. Look at the outside of the camper where that box is (or lift the lid on the seat and look) - with the slope of the wall behind the box, it's only about 1/2 the size it appears to be, and there's no flat floor to sit a battery on.

I was just asking a question. I am sure the "box" is the same no matter what year.

Made a frame with angle iron . Have a piece of 3/4'' plywood for base and used 2 tie down straps for now. I has worked well for me did it in 16 and have driven on lots of bumpy dirt roads in Nevada and no issues. I will probably paint it and tidy it up this spring. good luck.GBA!!SVJ
